About Our Guild

A community of Catholic health care professionals in the Greater Philadelphia area seeking to live our Catholic faith while serving patients and families.

Discover connection. Deepen faith. Transform your practice.

The Saint John Neumann Guild is a chartered organization of the Catholic Medical Association (CMA), “the largest association of Catholic individuals in healthcare.” The mission of the CMA is to give voice to the dignity of the human person in the public square, protect conscience rights, and advocate for practicing health care professionals in truth and goodness. At the local level, the Saint John Neumann Guild discerns how best to support its members in bringing these mission objectives to life in their particular settings.

The St. John Neumann Philadelphia Guild of the Catholic Medical Association is a stewardship organization. The life of our Guild is animated by gratitude, prayer, service, mentorship, and stewardship. Stewardship is a biblical concept rooted in giving back to the Lord in gratitude for all He has done for us. As you think about your annual contributions to our Guild—and additional support for our regional and student programs—please reflect on:

  • What have I been given?
  • What is expected of me?
  • How do I respond?

Our Mission

  • To grow closer to Jesus Christ and to serve our patients and communities with humility, skill, truth, and mercy.

Our vision

  • To be the healing and encouraging presence of Christ to others—both in our daily practice of medicine and in the broader community.

what we do

  • Monthly Gatherings: Opportunities for prayer, discussion of pressing moral and ethical issues, and mutual support.
  • Educational Events: Distinguished speakers and experts address timely challenges at the intersection of faith and health care.
  • Support for Students: We sponsor and mentor members of the Catholic Medical Students Association, helping form the next generation of faithful Catholic physicians and health professionals.

Our national connection

The St. John Neumann Guild is part of the Catholic Medical Association (CMA), a national network of over 2,000 members. Together, we strive to grow in the spirit of Christ in both our personal and professional lives, to bring His healing presence into health care, and to serve the Church through our specialized knowledge and experience.

Our patron saint

As the fourth bishop of Philadelphia, St. John Neumann welcomed the stranger, served the rich and poor alike, and worked tirelessly with his sisters and brothers in faith to educate and evangelize. He also helped to establish a bank so that people could work toward a better future. As a true “missionary disciple,” he is a great model for our work in health care in the 21st century.
